Introduction

The following text will be briefly introduced to the elements I use in FL Studio 9.
On the desktop, we can observe the following items.

Menu Bar

In the menu bar including the right are two sliders. Left is Master volume, with the default settings stands at 100% power. Do not turn up more than that. Right is Master pitch, he stands in the middle (0 cent) and do not move unless you want to experiment. In the field on picture where writes "Drop these on channels/ mixer effect slots..." when you move the slide or something else to do in FL Studio will read the data that will be helpful.

Shortcut panel

Using these shortcuts are opening or close (from left to right) : Playlist, Step sequencer, Piano roll, Browser, Mixer. From here typically use only Playlist and Mixer.

Playlist

Everything I make in Step sequencer set in Patterns in shape rectangle, as it is by default "Main automation". Add rectangles with the left mouse click, with a right-delete. "Main automation" I recommend to delete before making song. Later I will explain what is happening here is the options.

 Step sequencer

In default we have (Sampler) Kick, Clap, Hat, Share. Later I will change it because I like to make from zero. Up left  is Beats per bar, for now is --. What does it mean? In Menu bar/ Options/ Project general setings. by default is Time signature Bar 4, Beat 4 or on picture, Bar is fields gray, dark red, gray, dark red, = 4 Beat is 4 fields in one color. This option can be changed from Menu bar or Beats per bar (dragging the mouse up on --). Icon on right Repeat step sequencer (arrow back) is used for example when we have a melody more then beat, so beat repeats and melody goes on (picture below)

Next is "Pattern 1" This is very important to know which pattern contains what. Swing skip.
Next is Graph editor. You can use Pan, Velocity, Release or other, I use only Velocity when I do not want to get in Piano roll to adjusted volume. You can see in the picture above the right Digi is vertical green filed, to determine which instrument will use it Velocity.
Next is Keyboard editor This is used to quickly enter notes like Graph editor.
Green dots (Mute/solo) on left side allow to temporarily disable an instrument.
To right is Channel panning and stand up. For now not touch.
To right is Channel volume. Instruments are sometimes too strong or too weak and need to use this option.

Piano roll

In Piano roll you can find keyboard and a field in which write notes. Tips and tricks I leave for later.

 Browser

 From Browser I use items:
  • Channel presets - There are some basic sounds for techno or house music.
  • Current project -  In a subfolder of History you can return errors
  • Packs -  This folder using the most. There are samples of drums, instruments such as piano, violin, guitar, bass ...
  • Projects -  When you make a whole song or melody and record in the flp file, will be located in this folder. For those who are beginners counsel to review all of what's in this folder.
Mixer

In Mixer usually inserted FX the right by numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. and settings. If you insert any effect in Master (up left) will be applied to all instruments, so carefully. For now, I do not want to comment further on this because it is a better example of the practical work.

Recording panel

From Recording panel use:
  • Typing keyboard to piano keyboard - This is the first icon up left. Very powerful tool for composing songs if you do not midi keyboard like me. You can play or check sounds on computer keyboard.
  • Metronome - Icon in lower left. Use this option only when I need a simple beat.
  • Countdown before recording - Is icon with 321. This option gives you an insight into the speed of beat and when to start. We will talk about recording next.
  • Main snap - Is black rectangle with text Line. Usually always at Line which means that the notes you made sticking to the line. Sometimes i use 1/2 step. If you want to arbitrarily place the note using (none).

Transport panel

In  Transport panel we find the main button Play/pause, shortcut to Play is Space key on your keyboard.
On right is Stop, Record, Tempo (140,000) where you can fine-tune the speed, Pattern selector (1).
Below Play button is Song position slider.
To Left side is Pat and Song. Pat is used when we want to let play in Step sequencer, Song use for Playlist.

Time panel

I like to know how long a beat, part of the song or the whole song. Current is set by default to beat 1:01:000. I also like to follow the time-zero. In the next session, I set up this and other options for quality work in Fl studio.
